It all makes sense except the dual engines. Why would anyone want twice the maintenance, twice the oil at oil change etc, etc.

Since most engine failures are fuel related; two dead engines are the same as one dead engine. Have a good set of filters or a fuel polishing system.

For manoevering a stern thruster is cheaper than a second engine.

And a single prop is more protected than two.

Oh well different strokes for different folks.

My personal preference is for a cockpit. For myself I simply would not
consider an aft cabin boat, it just doesn't work for me, and my boys and I
like to fish so the cockpit is the best setup for us. I'm also a SERIOUS
tightwad so the trawler economy appealls to me. I like twin engines (a little
untrawlerish) so that's what my boat has, if it had came with a single I would
have changed it to twins. My grade school teachers always said I was a little
slow so the trawler type kinda fits my personality, I guess. The speed it
makes is just about perfect for pulling trolling lines. The Krogen line of
trawlers pretty much fits my idea of the classic trawler, the older ones
anyway, designed by James S. especially the 42, and the 54.
