Just another thought. I had a good friend with a Bertram sportfish who tried
to get me to use these devices. I almost succumbed. But. He generally
operated the boat at high rpm which could rough up a traditional packing
gland. I run at low rpm, low shaft rpm. I've seen little seepage. Get more
water in the bilge from air-conditioner condensate than from packing glands.

Oh, and if the packing material fails, just grease up an old T-shirt, bung
    it in and press.

    Regards,
