I can relate to those who say "I would never install 8Ds again" but they do
lend themselves to certain requirements which other types cannot fulfil.

For instance on our boat there six 8D AGMs, racked two high, and a 4D in a
low locker on the port side. Access is from the side of the companionway which
is inboard of the locker. This location keeps them out of the engineroom and
their weight offsets that of the pony engine on the starboard side. The
batteries are simply slid into place with no top access needed. That space
configuration could not be utilized by batteries which need servicing (water or
terminals), and/or have terminals at each end.

Heavy? Sure, but that's what hired help is for. Besides, at my age I need
all the exercise I can get!

    Regards,
