I offer another view of marina insurance requirements;
The largest operator of marinas on the west coast has modified their slip
leases to require that the boater is responsible for ALL events, even those
caused by the negligence of the marina itself. One boater tripped over the
uneven dock surface and was unable to pursue medical costs because of the
signed lease. This is becoming more prevalent as more members of the MRA
become aware of the success of its application. The only cure is to make
certain you have more than adequate coverage since you may now be the only
party responsible for whatever happens on or around your boat. Most tenants
never read the full slip lease and don't realize what they have agreed to.
Marinas on the west coast are limited in number, unable to expand and
generally full. Supply and demand is in full swing.
