The Microphore Digester on our 20 year old GB 46 does not need chlorine to "work". In fact, there is a trap between the digester and the chlorinator. The chlorinator is only there because it made the installation legal at the time. We don't use clorine in the unit because the discharge of chlorine is illegal, and because we found that some chlorine gass seeped into the digester and interferred with the bacterial action..

These units look good on paper. Only problem is they depend on chlorine
tablets to work. The chlorine dissipates well in open water but isn't good
on shallow reef structure, e.g.. the Keys or the Bahamas. Eats corral alive.
IMHO it's only a question of time until their use will be restricted or
eleminated.
The Lectrasan is magic. Electricity turns seawater temporarily into a
powerful acid that kills the bugs and then, miraculously, turns back to
seawater.
