    A friend of mine used to own a Bristol Channel Cutter sailboat.....loaded with britework. ANd he picked and choosed all of the different areas he painted and did a great job of painting almost all of the wood while leaving "accents" of varnished wood. He ended up selling the boat and got top dollar as it stood. I think if tastefully and thoughtfully done, it would be fine. I know I would as I hate doing britework.
