    Bill,
    May I suggest that if you paint the rails, that you seal off the wood
    prior to painting. That way, the next owner can get back to the
    original finish with a heat gun. The color I have used on some of the
    brightwork on my boat is Pettit Easypoxy Brightwork Brown #3510 and
    from a distance, comes close to a wood tone. The beige color you
    mentioned will not give the contrast between the deck, hull and sky
    that you are used to seeing when you look at your boat.
