T&T: teak deck

    It's a very bad idea, I think, to cover teak with something else.
    The teak underneath will continue to expand and contract with
    temperature and moisture changes, and whatever is on top of it will
    come unattached in places, moisture will get in, and you'll end up
    with some really impressive problems. If you want to get rid of the
    teak planking, fine. But don't do it by covering it. You'll come to
    regret doing that and in the end, it will cost you big time because
    you'll either have to rip everything up to do it right or you'll have
    to reduce the selling price of the boat so the next owner can afford
    to have it all ripped up and done right.

    There are lots of posts on different forums, the Grand Banks Owners
    forum being one of them, about replacing a teak deck with
    fiberglass. It can be done by the owner, it's not automatically a
    yard job. A fellow down the dock from us just did this with his
    Island Gypsy. I don't know his level of experience--- I got the
    impression he'd never done it before--- but he did a good job and it
    looks great.
