    Thanks to all for their feedback. There is much to digest - that's a good
    thing! It looks like my list of items to read/research is going to get
    bigger before it gets smaller. That's OK, too.

    Here is a related question that I would find very interested to hear some
    opinions on... This is HIGHLY preliminary but I am thinking what we will
    probably be looking for is a trawler in the 40' - 45' range. Price is sort
    of an unknown right now but our upper limit will probably be $300K. This
    probably rules out new boats because I really don't want to buy something
    with borrowed money. So, since we are talking used boat, it seems
    reasonable to me that the chances of finding one in solid condition are
    enhanced if the boat was well-constructed to begin with. So... what
    manufacturers have earned a reputation for building solid boats?
