> You've got to be kidding! Pink antifreeze in your freshwater holding tank?
Well, uh, yes, I have been putting pink antifreeze in my freshwater holding
tanks for the last nine years. We have had no ill effects and the Admiral,
who has a mighty sniffer, says she only notices the odor for the first couple
of weeks in the spring.
I put 6 gallons of antifreeze in each tank. Then I pump it through all of the
faucets. I bypass the hot water heater. After pumping through all of the
faucets, I pump the rest of the antifreeze out through the galley sink and
back into the one gallon containers. I generally recover 10 gallons. This
10 gallons is then used to winterize the engine, generator, cooler drain, ect.
I drain the hot water heater but then dump a little antifreeze into it for
good measure since I can not drain all of the water out. I have a tee in a
cold water line in the engine room that I remove the plug from, and then I
open all of the faucets. The pink antifreeze then drains out the tee fitting
into the bilge thus emptying most of the piping.
In the spring I fill the tanks and flush several times, and treat with bleach.
I don't make any special effort to remove the antifreeze and the odor, but
with some good flushing and bleach we have not had any problems or long term
odor problems.

Andy
