We also tired of the poly smell in August! Now we never run the pink stuff
into the water tanks or water heater. Bypass the WH by disonnecting the
intake and outflow and connect together as a bypass. Then drain the heater
and call it good. We drain both water tanks and leave the outflow
disconnected all winter. We run potable AF through the water lines and leave
it in over winter. Very easy to flush just the lines in the spring and no
more AF smell. Works well at least in central Chesapeake area.
