Pretty much, the battery temp sensor is used to sense the environment
that the batteries are in so you can connect it to any of the battery
leads in your house bank, which is usually the ones that are receiving
the high current loads and are sensitive to temp. changes.

I am installing my new batteries and my new Xantrex True Charge 40. I
have a battery temperature sensor....which battery should I connect it
    to?
There is one stand alone starting battery and two that are the house
    bank.
I wonder which one would heat up first?
I can only install the temp sensor on one battery.
