This sounded like a good idea, so I bought one a few years ago. First, it
was just too damm big for my boat. Took up too much room and was always in
the way. You had to be hooked to power or running the genset for it to
operate. Frankly, if I'm hooked to shore power I can probably go buy a bag
of ice, or fill my little cooler at a hotel or ice machine somewhere and
stick it in the freezer. Speaking of freezers, assuming you have one, good
old fashioned ice trays will keep you in ice for drinks as long as you
refill them as you empty them. The countertop ice maker is in the garage
now, and only gets used once or twice a year, if that.
