    go with a larger aluminum Spade anchor or a heavier but smaller steel
    one?

    While the weight of an anchor is important, particularly if you need to
    have it punch through a crusty surface, it's design and fluke area are
    more important. The only negative I've heard about aluminum anchors,
    the Fortress specifically, is that under very high loads in tests the
    shank has bent.
