It's that time of the year again. Cruisers in the New York area and Hudson
Valley will be treated to fireworks extravaganzas from now until the end of
July. The fireworks are usually shot over the water so the best vantage point is
from a boat anchored offshore (out of range).

July 1, Kingston (Annual Jazz Festival, June 29 thru July 1). Fireworks start
at 9:30 p.m. This is usually well attended so make reservations for marina
berths early. Limited anchoring in Rondout Creek.

July 3, Haverstraw (rain date July 4). Anchoring available in front of twin
smokestacks. Band concert starts at 6:30 p.m., fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

July 3, Ossining. Sheltered anchoring in the bay just south of Croton Point.
    Band concert 7:00 p.m., fireworks 9:00 p.m.

July 4, Peekskill Bay, anchoring in bay.

July 4, Tarrytown, anchoring north of Tappan Zee Bridge

July 4, New York to Jersey City, HUGE Macy's fireworks display. The nation's
largest. 9:00 p.m. Check with USCG for permitted anchoring fields.

    July 22, Verplanck's Point (south of Peekskill). 10:30 p.m. This is not a 4th
of July celebration but the closing of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Italian
Festival, the oldest feast on the Hudson River. The festival runs from July 19
through 22. There is ample anchoring just offshore.
