    Thanks to all who answered
      I think I now know how RMS meters are better and their proper use (kinda). Most of the answers were directly to the point of measuring AC values of not true Sine waveforms from devices such as Inverters and smaller generators.
       
      As I don't have any other AC on the boat besides shore power I could probably get by with a cheaper one for now, but someone pointed out a nice one ( Craftsman) that is RMS and has clamp on current capabilities for under a $100 that I think I will go get, Now if I can get the dog to stop trying to use it I'll be all set.
