Keith, I have this system on our boat.
You use a bait tank aerator, 12 volt, available @ West Marine.
And an air stone from a pet supply store. We picked up the plumbing supplies
from Home Depo, we used a piece of semi rigid tubing for the run to the bottom
of the tank. And suspended the air stone about an inch off the bottom.
The point here is to make a positive, low volume, contagious air exchange
from the air to the water to the waste tank vent. This allows the anaerobic
bacteria to get the air they need to survive and "eat" the smell out of the waste.
I suspect I'll get E-mail's about how this is technically incorrect, but it is
in essence correct and close enough for me. The system works GREAT. It took
the better part of a day and three trips to the store to get it right, so the
$200.00 for the Sweet Tank system looked pretty good by the time we were done.
Purchasing the Sweet Tank system is also a great move.
