probably be around 10-12 feet in length max (with a few extra feet for the
cleat), adjustable to something shorter for calmer conditions. I'm thinking
5/8" 3-part twisted nylon would probably be better for absorbing shock than
3/4" since it is going to be doubled into a bridle that is lead into both
haws-pipes on either side of the bow to keep the bow centered, more
    or less.

That's just about how we had the 41Hershine set up and it worked just fine
over thousands of miles of cruising, including one night with 35 kt winds at
the end of a 7-8 mile fetch. Just make sure you have good chafing where the
lines come through the pipes. I used heavy reinforced vinyl hose and it lasted
a long time. By the way, think in terms of the entire load being carried on
one line for safety. That will actually be the case as the boat swings on the
hook. I also like to put an extra 10-15 feet or so of chain over the chain
hook to add weight to keep it low in the water.
