    Bob,

How has performance changed as a result of the weight? If you are
dissatisfied, and you are willing to do some testing, here is what I
    did:

I put 400' of 5/16' chain on an express cruiser along with a maxwell
    vertical windlass with a wildcat.

To test, I loaded sand bags (bought them at home depot, and retuned
them when done) to approximate the weight and determined 400' was the
max. Any more and I would have been plowing.

Over the winter, the yard extended my trim tabs by 2 pr 3 inches,
which helped getting the boat on the plane easier.

I anchored in Lake michigan, in waters at times 40'-50' deep. So, a
7:1 scope chain, along with 30 kilo delta allowed us to sleep at night.

I would see if 50' would be enough to remove, but play with cement
bags first. Why guess if you do not have to.

    Is there
any reason that I can not add a shackle in the future if I want the
additional 100 foot (or, if we decide to cruise to deeper water)?

    Thanks much for your input.

    Bob
