To everyone that received a copy of the "Hudson River Guide" on CD:
Ron Rogers pointed out an error in the formatting of the pictures in the
Album and Art files which may make it difficult to view the pictures on a PC.
Pictures "02" and "31." in "Album" lack the suffix ".jpg" so you have to tell
Windows to use its picture and fax viewer to see the images. Each image in
the "ART" folder must be manually viewed as well, one at a time, owing to their
lacking any suffix like ".jpg". If you download the pictures from the CD to
your hard drive and add the missing suffix, they can be viewed normally.
The CD was created on a Mac. Everything works perfectly on a Mac.
This mistake is an example of the incompatability of the Mac and PC software.
And, of course, compounded by my error. The Mac automatically appends two
hidden codes to each file, the Type - which tells the computer the nature of the
file, and the Creator - which tells the computer which program created the
file. Thus a text file created by MS Word opens in Word, not MS Write And a .doc
file created in MS Write opens in Write, not Word. JPG files can be created by
many programs and the invisible codes tell the computer in which one to open
the file. Because the Creator and Type codes are invisible and automatically
appended, you tend to forget about them.
Which I did. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Larry Z
