Ditto for what the man said about the HIN. On my 1979 MT 44, the HIN is
under the lower starboard side of the swim platform; impossible to see
from the deck or dock.
Every year when I get my Vessel Safety Check, invariably an examiner
will ask to see the HIN and I get raised eyebrows when I say you can't
see it unless you get in the dinghy or the water!
However, the MT's do have a metal plaque in the forward cabin,
prominently displayed, which has the vessel's HIN on it. YMMV
