I have a nephew that is looking at a 1999 Carver Trojan 400 Express. It is on
the web site of Boat Tree. It has twin T7.4s, is fully loaded. Pictures, as
usual, look real good. But one of the things I noticed on the site was there
was not one single picture of the engines or the generator. This threw up a
red flag.
He is wanting input from me and I am leery of give any because I dont know
a thing about Carvers other than they are expensive to maintain and suck up
uel like a sponge away from water for three years.
He has never owned a boat, of any size, so this scares me a bit. This is a lot
of power for someone that's inexperienced. He lives in Florida so I have tried to give
him a run down of some of the things he will run into, like: insurance cost, if
he can even find a company to insure it during The Season, the possibility
of having to move it north during The Season, maintenance cost, the
problems of finding a slip near to where he lives, cost of running it, taking into
account the 454 MPis love gasoline like most sailors love rum.
Other than the above I was wondering if there were any other idiosyncrasies
he should aware of. If there are any currant or past owners of this vessel I
would appreciate your input. Thanks,
Tom B.
