Having lost a petstep to the tune of around $125, I looked for another
answer. I bought a 10' length of 1/8" x 1" square aluminum tubing and I had
a few pieces of scrap 1/4" ply. SS screwed the ply to the tubing to make a
1' x 5' plank. CPES'd the living bejesus out of it, painted it white and
painted non-skid on it. Ripped a piece of treated 2 x 4 into 2 x 2 and
that's the "lip" to keep it on the boat. The other end's on a 18" high bench
depending on the tide. NB- As in the author of this post says, the tether's
a must.
Had a 150# man who thought this was the gangway run down it- the ultimate
test. I'm now sure it's safe for a 25# dog.
