I am trying to decide between a 4kw open array radar system from Furuno and
Raymarine. The Furuno display is a 10.4 inch while the Raymarine display is
    just over 12 inches.

I would consider a looking carefully at a 3rd alternative; Garmin has 10.4"
displays that are amazingly intuitive and provide MARPA, XM Weather, and
overlay ability. Right now, several models that have been around for a while are
beginning to be steeply discounted: 3010C; and 3210 give you great 10"
screens; I think the 3210 comes with all charts and the newest G2 abilities
    including 3D sounder capabilities.

I am using two 3010C's, one above the other; I generally run radar on the
bottom unit and charts/sounder on the unit on top; these are tied together in
the network and are interchangeable and redundant.

They are tied to the latest and greatest radar from Garmin, the six foot
open array 406 with a very narrow beam that is really remarkable.

The new 4012 and 4210 twelve inch displays are now available with a big
    bunch of new features:

I think they might be touch screen which is a possible concern, at least for
    me, in marine applications.

I did not like the original 4kw dome Garmin radar; I do like the 406 for
sure, because I have it installed and it simply blows everything away and if you
can go open array seems to me to be the best choice especially since you can
save some money by networking the 406 or four foot 404 with an earlier model
3010C or 3210; you can run G2 charts on the 3010C but it will not
retroactively run the new 3D sounder features. 3210 would be a great choice.

Garmin took back the 4kw dome when I complained about its detail inside of 3
miles; the 406 is perfect at all ranges.

For intuitive ease of operation, nothing beats Garmin. I do have a new 10"
old style Furuno CRT display radar that is stand alone; I like that too, but
for entirely different reasons; for plotting, sounder, Marpa, weather, and all
the other good stuff you want the color digital stuff and I think Garmin has
this figure out; now that they have the 406 open array. They also have a
brand new dome out that probably cures the problems the old dome had; this would
be about dome number 3 from them and it's sure to be ok if it's even close to
their new open arrays. I bought all this big ticket stuff from West Marine.
They really stepped up when I returned the dome for the open array.

They also took back the sounder module; they came out with a new one that
was much better; I just paid the difference. John Houts
