Subject: ACR M300 Epirb
This unit is not listed as being discontinued, but it is not shown on
the web site.
There is no place on the ACR site that explains the confusion over the
Jan 2007 121.5 mhz epirb usage.
Comment?
Mike
The Mini B300 is approval by a waiver of the FCC to part 80. It is approved
as a Man-over-board device. This waiver allows personal style B formerly
121.5 EPIRBS to be used for local homing and MOB/COB situations.
They are not sold as EPIRBs and have not been sold for that purpose for many
years.
The Mini B300 comes two ways, manual activation and water activated
activation called the Mini B300 H2ON. The water activated units were
developed for the North Sea oil platforms and harbor pilots. In this
situation the oil rig or the pilot vessel is equipped with a 121.5 alert
system and frequently with a 121.5 homing device as well.
I hope this answers your questions about why it is not discontinued. We
continue to sell it into special applications as well as to cruising sailors
who want a local alerting system for their crew, especially the water
activated model.
