I'm surprised that Bob Austin hasn't weighed in on this one since he owned a Cal 46 motorsailer once. If memory serves me correctly, Meridian Trawlers were built by one of the sailboat manufactures located in, and around; Santa Ana, Southern California. I believe it was Jensen Marine trying to diversify from their Cal line of sailboats. They also tried small motorhomes. Imagine, Columbia, Coronado, Cal, Erickson, MacGregor sailboats, and Willard all being built behind the orange curtain in Orange County, California. Those were the days for the local chopper gun jockeys.
