It's a beautiful trip from New York to Albany; easily done in two days, even
at our leisurely 7.5 knots. In fact, at that speed you can get to Albany in
2 days from halfway down the Jersey coast if you catch the tide right. As an
example, last year in early June we departed Barnegat Inlet at 0630. At 1340,
after 53 nautical miles, we passed under the Verazanno Bridge. Another 37
miles north on the Hudson, at 1830, we anchored in Haverstraw Bay. The next
morning we departed at 0500 and were in Catskill, some 63 miles further north,
at 1330, having got about a half-knot push from the flood. The Federal Lock at
Troy, just above the Port of Albany, is only 35 miles further, and just
beyond the lock is Waterford, the junction of the Erie and Champlain Canals.
