Yes, you can make pure battery water from a water maker, but it doesn't make
much sense, as it takes 5 gallons of (already produced) fresh water to make
1 gallon of battery water. We think it's much less expensive, and more
convenient) to buy battery water, but if you are voyaging there may be times when
you'd have to make your own. Also, remember you'll need to have a
squeaky-clean container for the product water or your efforts might be for naught.
The procedure for the Village Marine unit we have on the sailboat calls for
feeding the unit fresh water (turn on the fresh water flush) while keeping
the pressure at about 200 psi. Let the machine run for 2-3 minutes to purge
salt from the membrane. After that, the water, according to Village, will be
"ultra pure" and suitable for batteries.

>What about watermaker product water, would that do for topping up the
batteries?
