It's harder to tell with my boat (Volvo KAD44), but in my pickup
(Cummins ISB) Stanadyne PF definitely reduces visible smoke, at least
when I first start it, and also makes for smoother and quieter idling.
By adding power, I suppose, its added cetane improves mileage, some 4-6%
in the truck (I have had several opportunities to compare with and
without Stanadyne). Stanadyne is also said to increase lubricity for
the injection pump, and reduce the gel point.
For my money, it seems well worth the cost - which is a whole lot less
if I get it in larger containers, such as a case of half-gallons from my
local diesel equipment supplier.
