FWIW, as I recall, flaring copper and using flare fittings on copper are not
allowed on USCG inspected vessels. What little copper we used was with
compression (ferrule) type fittings. Of course, Aeroquip type is different.

"Seahorse"
> Scott Bulger and I have been having some fun with copper tube and flare
fittings.
A few caveats, reference to Nigel Calders, Boatowners Mechanical...
Manual, 2nd ed. page 359.
Using short shoulder flare nuts is an invitation to a fracture from
vibration.
The finished flare should be annealed, heated and then quenched.
The end must be cut flush and square, all burrs removed.
The spinner should be oiled and it should not be tightened down
excessively.
If the flare is not perfectly made, should be cut off and redone.
