It has been my belief that bronze thru hull fittings have NPS (National
Pipe Straight) threads and I believe all ball valves have NPT (National
Pipe Tapered) threads. They will screw together but only by a few threads.
I now have learned that there is something called a "combination" thread
on at least some thru hulls. The end is Tapered and the rest is Straight.
I don't know if all are like this.
I would like to replace a couple of ball valves and I don't know if my
thru hulls are "combination" thread types. I would like to do the best job
for the least effort and expense so I wish to avoid replacing the thru
hulls and installing flanged seacocks as this pretty well requires
removing the thru hull fittings.
What has your experience been?
Thanks
John
