    Most all the cruising sailboats on the US east coast are running electric
    Refrigerators, so the tiny drain of a VHF radio is insignificant by
    comparison.Besides, they almost always travel with the engines running, so
    there should be plenty of power available.

    Used to be, radios were mounted inside because if they got wet, they failed.
    Water resistance has improved over the years; maybe sailor's perceptions
    just haven't caught up yet.
