Microsoft has a well deserved reputation for buggy software.
The underlying operating system did not used to have a test suite for
the so called operating system calls. Some system calls did not check
for error codes returned when they failed. Or carry the error codes back
to the higher level routines that called them. I would not be surprised
if there is still no test suite.

For instance, MS products generally won't detect a failure to run out of
disk space, when writing to a file. The assumption was that disks were
so large that this could be ignored. Yikes.

Beta testing of products was a joke, because reporting bugs resulted in
nothing being done, even over a period of several beta releases. The
entire beta testing community has gotten so used to this, that it
finally resulted in most testers not reporting bugs. The result of that
is that the first release is the practical "beta" and the first time
buyers are the "real beta testers".

If you think I don't know about this sort of thing, I refer you to
Andrew Shulman's book, "Undocumented Windows". My name is in the credits
    about page "iv".

My spies reported to me that, The Bill Gates, uttered an unprintable
word, after a low level bug which I found and which was responsible for
system crashes around the world, was written up in Info World. Many of
these users had been crashing for years and had failed to get the fix
which I provided, even though they were on "MS Premier Software Support"
to the tune of many thousands of dollars per year.

Considering the history of these issues and the fact that essentially
nothing has changed during the past 20 years or so, the user community
is entitled to believe that it will not improve in the next 10 or maybe
even 20. And I made this point over 10 years ago.

After all these years, you would think the leopard might have stripes
    instead of spots. Not likely!

    Regards,
    Mike
