Snip: I can enthusiastically recommend Coastal Explorer, it's a reasonable
cost (<$375), and the charts can be downloaded for free."
I would agree, very nice program. However I think it requires XP. I already
have two laptops and use the 6 year old Dell, which has a nice 15" screen,
for navigation - and nothing else, which I think is the way to go. It runs
Win 98 and ChartView quite well right now. The other is for Wi-Fi etc.
I believe CE requires the XP op system, also I was wondering about the
processor speed. Is it practical/possible to run XP on what many would call
an old computer? It would be dedicated to navigation only of course but what
about the processor speed for CE?
