    bad, but haven't removed the unit to tear into it to check it. Anyone had a
    similar failure, or have any other ideas?

    Inverters sometimes have memory loss which is resolved by unplugging the
    positive cable for 5 minutes, and then re-attaching it. This "boots" the
    code and restores service.
