However, John Deere's district rep tells me
they can not sell spare ECUs or fuel pumps--how bazzare is that. The
rationale being it's a restriction enforced by the EPA.

You got bad information seems to be a growing problem in deeres distribution
network. The ECU and fuel pump or anything else can be purchased as a spare or
replacement I have done it for customers many times. In the past year or so
the deeres have become so popular that in addition to them being unable to
handle the production demands the service and distribution network is also over
loaded and falling apart. They better get this fixed fast or there excellent
engine is going to get a bad reputation.
