What writers get paid depends on lots of factors. For example, the WiFi
article I did for Passagemaker last spring was just over 3,000 words and I
received $400. An article I did for Network World, also just over 3,000
words, paid $3,100 over 5 years ago. I remember back then asking my friend
Tom Neale if $1/word was a fair price. At the time, he was cruising editor
for Cruising World magazine and he looked at me like I was from Mars!
Clearly, boating writers are at the bottom of the food chain.
As for factuality, the written (and published) word should be taken with the
same grain of salt as information gleaned from the internet. Make every
article pass your "sniff-test!"
