I thought I would mention efax and similar services since we are discussing
these devices. Efax provides you with a phone number that anyone can send
you a fax and efax will send you the fax as an email attachment. This
enables you to receive faxes regardless of your physical location. The
service can also send the fax to multiple mail boxes. Efax is the pioneer
in this service but there are other less pricey alternatives. Efax started
as a free service but they have priced it up to $17 per month. There are
lots of other cheaper alternatives. Just Google efax.
You can simply view the fax, forward it to another fax machine, store it on
your computer or print it out at your leisure.
I would sign up with one of the lesser priced services and not publish my
fax number. If someone wants to fax you something just give them the
number. This way you are not tied to one particular service if they raise
the prices or terms. Also not publishing the number protects you from junk
faxes. This is a great service for cruisers since the phone line has
nothing to do with receiving a fax. I notice in my business that email has
almost replaced faxes and the number of faxes we send or receive lessens
every month.
Efax type services are a great interim solution.
