    Hi all

I grew up in the north of England not far away from the fishing port of
Grimsby. Here fishing vessels of all descriptions unloaded their catch,
repaired their gear and prepared for the next trip to sea. These North Sea
trawlers had a full displacement, round bilged hull, deep forefoot, a full
length keel, just one engine and nothing in reserve. Like fishing boats the
world over these boats went to sea in all weathers and had to withstand
everything that a North Sea gale could throw at them. The fishermen were
tough and they demanded nothing less from their boats.

This, like Bob, is how I see trawlers.
    "Fast Trawler" is an oxymoron.
A boat built on a planing hull with trawler-like superstructure is not a
    trawler.
The hull determines which vessels can accurately carry that name.
Any "yacht" bearing the term "Trawler" should be able to trace its
bloodlines to a working boat bearing the same name.

Fountaine-Pajot, the French catamaran builder has a range of "Trawler-Cats".
    What utter rubbish.

The term "trawler" or "trawler yacht" these days is used by marketing men
to imply a certain style of boating - not a style of boat.

That's OK provided that this is fully understood and they do not lead people
into thinking that their planing "fast-trawler" is a go anywhere,
ocean-crossing, take anything boat. That is inaccurate, deceitful and
    perhaps even dangerous.

    Regards

    Hello Roger

Do you think those rugged fisherman you mention would call a full
displacement single engine Krogen a TRAWLER I bet they would not. It all depends on who
you talk to but I think the true definition would exclude all recreational
    boats.
