This camera appears to be very similar to one we purchased ar Boat'US a few
years ago for, as I recall about $500 with a pretty cheesey monitor similar to
the one shown in the Harbor Freight catalog. The only difference I can tell
from the specs is that this one uses white LED's. The one we used had Infared
LED's. We used it quite successfully to see what was happening inside the
dark bowels of a machine we were building but I imagine a good result with
underwater viewing also. I'm not sure what difference there is between white
LED's and IR LED's would be.
The camera with an LED ring is obviously purchased by the mfgs as a unit
from somebody who builds them for nighttime security cameras. If one is so
inclined, you might try to find one at Fry Electronics, Radio Shack, etc and put
it in a PVC housing behind a plexiglass window glopped in the end. You
wouldn't even need to seal the top end if you don't drop it. You could even make a
bracket for the back of the pilothouse and use it as a rear view camera.
