Oops! Senior moment. I goofed on the description of the Andrea Doria
accident. The Andrea Doria was headed to New York, not from New York when the
collision occurred. It was the Stockholm that was headed from New York. Of course all
this was 50 years ago and the little gray cells aren't what they used to be.
At the time, there was concern that the Andrea Doria was marginally stable
with empty tanks and showed abnormally high angles of list under side forces.
Unfortunately, this proved to be the case.
