I think some folks are getting confused about amperage and 240 vs 120 volt
    service.

Perhaps it would be easier to express the available power as watts or
    kilowatts...amps times volts.
30 amps times 120 volts (one leg) would be 3600 watts. Two 30 amp cables,
on separate legs of a 240 volt service, would be 2 times 30 times 120 (each
leg) equals 7200 watts. 50 amp, 240 volt service would be 12,000 watts, or
    12kw.

Of course, you are limited by the power available on the dock--for example,
two 30 amp cables plugged into the same leg of a 30 amp 240 volt breaker
would be limited by the breaker.

The original question, I believe, was regarding the use of two 30 amp
cables plugged into a 50 amp splitter. If its a 50 amp/120 volt service,
then you are limited to 50 amps x 120 volts or 6000 watts by the breaker.
If it's plugged into a 50 amp/240 volt service you would be able to get a
full 60 amps at 120 volts, for 7200 watts, or 30 amps on each leg of the
    service.

To the question below, normally this is called a 50 amp, 240 volt service.

The bottom line is this, you MUST specify both voltage and amperage if you
    want to describe available power.
