I second Reid's observation, having used GCF filters on my '78 MT 34. The
old tanks had some kind of crud in them before I installed the F-1. When
you'd pull out a roll of bounties, the top third would look bad; you could
see how far the stuff had migrated. Over a period of time, it cleaned up the
tanks.
When I repowered Cigano, I had new tanks built with separate suction and
return for engines and fuel polishing. Engine suction is about 3/4" from
bottom; transfer/polishing is at 1/4". I have a spring timer on the Walbro
and the fuel is polished with an F-1. Mains and genset each have 2 Racor
500's with vacuum gauges so I can switch filters underway without having to
open the system.
My Floscan fuel flow system expressly requires 30m primary filtration. No
2's or 10's.
No connection with the Gulf Coast Filters but I polish my fuel at the dock
or underway with the F-1 and use an O-1 bypass filter on each main and
genset. Their construction is industrial grade.
