T&T: Boss Boats

I have a friend who put one on his new Defever 49 last year and has had
terrible luck with the boat. They put it in the water when they were attending
our February Defever Rendezvous at Useppa Island and it almost sunk as there
was a crack or hole in it somewhere. The had all kinds of promises from Boss
about repairs or replacement but when we left for the Bahamas in April they
had received no satisfaction from the company but had been loaned an older
used boat to use for the summer as they were going cruising. The used loaner
arrived with no plug in it and it also almost sank as the factory unloaded it
for delivery. I haven't talked to our friends since April so I don't know how
or if the company has replaced their new Boss boat yet. Email me if you
would like and I will call them to find out if Boss has done anything to resolve
    their problems.

My question to you would be this---Do you really want a fiberglass dingy if
your are going to go cruising??? We have the traditions inflatable and I
would hate to see what a Boss boat would look like if it were actually used in
the "real cruising world" in which we operate for several months every year.
If you don't mind that they get all scratched up they would be OK, but if
you cruise with one and have to unload and load the boat in an anchorage where
there will certainly be a wake just when you don't want it; or if you ever
plan to leave it tied to a dingy dock with dozens of hard and soft sided
dingy's tied next to you or coming and going; or if you plan to leave it float
behind you cruising boat at anchor through wind changes ,wakes and tide changes
you will find it bumping on all sides against the swim platform or the side of
the boat---Well you get the picture ...

This advice comes from a guy who's done the Great Loop, been out the St
Laurence past Quebec city, just returned from his third cruise to the Bahamas and
has covered almost 22.000 miles in the last six years. This advice may only
be worth what you are paying for it but I would reconsider the Boss purchase
if I were you, especially if you plan to go cruising with it. For more
    than one reason!!!
