T&T: The case for following manufacturers recommendation: was 2 vs 10 micron filters

    Yes the manufacturers have the staged filter recommendations but again based
    on what criteria. Is it because typical diesel fuel has the majority of
    particles in the 10 to 30 and bigger micron size and so staged filters will
    thus catch the majority of particles before the 2 micron final? If the bulk of
    particles were 2 micron and smaller, would any filter be necessary?
    So we still have the "the manufacturer said so" camp and the "it is easier to
    change a non-engine mounted filter" camp. Somewhere there must be a
    manufacturers rational and test results that support the staged filter method
    and that it is not based on old stationary engine history.
