"Bob,
Thanks for the reply...I read it at 6 this morning and I'm still trying
to read between the lines so please bear with me a minute....
The boat's
primary (I bought her last year) is a dual Racor 500 with 2
micron elements."
Shell Oil Corp. in research in the 1980's discovered that any hydrocarbon chain over one tenth of a micron would not burn in combustion. So that means that a 2 micron filter does little for combustion. A fuel stabilizer that will reduce the micron size of the molecular to increase combustion and is the only answer to all these questions. Having treated heavy fuel oil to Tankers and Cruise Ships I believe that the only answer is fuel stability. Fuel stability increases combustion and cleans injector systems by powerful solvents. There are only a few products that achieve this goal. The rest are called snake oil. If you are only interested in feeling good about changing a filter, then filters are the way to go. However, if clean burning fuel and fuel system cleaning is your goal, trust in a good stability product rather than a 2 micron filter. This, of course, is my opinion after years in the fuel stability business. Interestingly enough, engine manufacturers hate to admit tha
t they can build an engine that will not perform on fuels produce by today's refineries. Since today's fuel are a combination of straight line distillation and cracking of heavy fuels which results in degradation of hydrocarbons over a short period of time, then the reduction of the size of the molecular to be burn becomes paramount. The issue is not how fine your filter can reduce the hydrocarbon size but rather the size of the molecular. Bad fuel (big hydrocabon chains) will clog a filter very quickly. Reducing the size of the molecular will will make filters and engines work better. I can provide fuel stability tests by independent laboratories to those who are interested .
So much for snake oil and filters.
Regards to the list.
