T&T: Fuel filtering general question

Does any engine maker suggest that the fuel can be too clean?
Suppose I had the usual off-engine setup, a couple of XX micron Racors,
ending in a final Gulf Coast Filter which is claimed to be a sub-micron filter?
The fact that a two micron element stops only 50% of the two micron particals
worries me, and that would be a good reason to use a GCF.
Does anyone refer to Cap'n Will Andrews' take on the subject, after careful
testing over a long period of time?
    Regards....John
