    Hi, Bob:

We do 99% of cell (phone and aircard) from the pilothouse. It has a 360
degree view, so that's where we "live." Unlike most trawlers, we have a 20'
aluminum mast, with forestay, backstay and four struts, directly overhead. That,
coupled with aluminum outriggers port and stbd make for poor reception unless
we are plugged into the masthead antenna.

    Regards,

    > We do a round trip from our summer "home" on Lake Champlain to NYC, along
    the
    > Jersey coast, thru the Delaware & Chessie to Beaufort and then offshore to
    > Mayport, FL, stopping over at Charleston. We make many stops along the
    way at
    > or near homes of friends, and with the exception of NC (which is getting
    > better), we are not without service for very long, if at all, anywhere.

Lest everyone start running out to buy antennas and amplifiers, I get the
same result as John with just a cellphone. (I have not been up the Hudson.)

    Bob
