Actually, there is a product called the "Dock 'n Talk" (that's docking
the cell phone, not the boat.. most of you are perfectly capable of
docking and talking unaided by technology), that accomplishes just
that. There are a variety if competitors such as Cell Socket, and more
coming, not the least of which is Motorola. I have seen this in action
on boats, using a Panasonic (or other) cordless phone system to form
extensions. Pretty slick. I should have expounded a bit on that (I have
here in the past), but I got tired of typing..
The Telulars see action more typically in things like construction site
trailers or emergency management vehicles, as they can be configured
    for fax machines, computers, etc.

Disclaimer: my company is also a distributor and reseller for all the
foregoing. This message does not constitute a solicitation!

As a Digital Amp user, I wanted to chime in here. Our coverage in our
previous marina was horrible, at best. I use Nextel, it's important for
me to be able to field weekend emergency calls from the boat, so
reliable service is high on the list. I used a Shakespeare 4' dual band
antenna with Digital Antenna's amp, with a direct connection to the
phone antenna jack. It's a bit of a short lead to use the phone, but it
works. I imagine if my phone were bluetooth compatible, that would be
    the hot lick.

Tellular makes a cellular phone base station that can use regular
    phones
connected to the base station, coupled with an external antenna and an
amp would probably be a sweet setup, but with the drawback of not being
able take the cell phone with you when you're not aboard. They also
    make
a docking station for cell phones that also connects to a POT (plain
    old
telephone) but you'd still need to connect the antenna to the phone
    when
docked. At least you wouldn't need to make a dash for the cell phone
    when it rings.

It seems like with all the gizmos for electronics out there, there
    would
be something better-suited for our marine applications, I suppose
there's just not the market for it to make it worthwhile for the
    manufacturers.
