Telling the support people, No the system doesnt have any other software, so it MUST be your problem is a powerful position to be in. Unfortunately you do have to use this occasionally

Scott made many good points.
I run two PC's and an integrated Ray marine nav system. The Ray marine
is on the bridge where 90% of our time is spent.
Below we have dedicated small form factor PC running only Rose Point
Coastal Explorer. It does have a firewall installed
for when I attach to the Internet to upgrade WIN2000 or Coastal
Explorer. All else is down loaded through the laptop and
transferred via cd.
In addition we have a laptop with a wireless connection for all of our toys.
Each machine has a restore CD that will put it back into a usable state
in less than 30 minutes complete with all applications.
The NAV pc has never crashed.
Having built an average of 4000 business PC's a year, I find this to be
the best solution to keep a critical application up and
running. As with business PC's, nav PC's should only run the absolute
bear minimum of software. Get another PC for everything else.
Create restore cd's often.

Bob Davis
